Take a trip into the Liberty Fabrics design studio with the Atlas of Dreams collection – a space for dreamers to build a world of their own imagining
Shop the collectionPainted and drawn by hand in the Liberty Fabrics in-house studio, these prints fuse technical artistry with a vibrant sense of imagination. Born from the vision of a utopian paradise, the Atlas of Dreams collection for Spring/Summer 2021 offers a whirlwind trip across dazzlingly varied landscapes. Split into four sections – ‘Tropical’, ‘Meadow’, ‘Desert’ and ‘Coast’ – the collection moves seamlessly across microcosmic worlds, inspired by the transportive power of dreams and memories.
Liberty Fabrics celebrates the beauty of our little blue planet with a global scope. Atlas of Dreams takes us on a journey from the lush depths of the rainforest to sunspot meadow idylls, via glittering seas and the otherworldly dunes of the desert – offering a new way for dreamers to build a world all of their own.
Tropical
The ‘Tropical’ story is painterly and vivid, with brush strokes inspired by the works of artists like Henri Rousseau and Paul Gauguin.
The scenery is alive with the movements of insects, frogs, lemurs, monkeys and birds, from the jungle floor to the dappled canopy above. Some prints channel a psychedelic ‘60s feel, while others evoke the botanical naturalism of creeping tendrils and trailing vines – a captivating setting, teeming with life on every level.
Meadow
Clear, dramatic vistas and rolling hills covered with wild flowers dominate the ‘Meadow’ story. Designs conjure up the reverie of a golden afternoon, with hampers and rugs spread out beneath a towering blue sky as picnickers make daisy chains in the long grass.
Reminiscent of dreamy, soft-hued oil paintings, these prints include a haze of delicate florals alongside larger, surreal-scaled blooms.
Desert
The wild at heart roam free within the ‘Desert’ story. Created in chalks, pastels and pencil crayons, these prints have a free-wheeling, road-tripping quality that evokes the magic of the open road, from sandy dunes to distant mountains.
Conversational prints of neon motel adverts and road signs sit alongside photo-real artworks of prickly pear and flowering cacti, all capturing a sense of shimmering heat and adventurous possibility.
Coast
The ‘Coast’ story is wide-ranging and deeply personal, mirroring the rosy tones of distant summer memories. Depicted with gouache paints, inks, and water colours, these vibrant prints mix striped deckchairs and sailing boats framed by fragrant hibiscus and frangipani flowers.
Look out for sea monsters and cartographic imaginings, created in collaboration with the British Library.
