Summer Jewellery Trends to Try
Get into the holiday spirit with these whimsical themes
By: Georgia GrahamEach season, our buyers source inspiration with the same sense of adventure as Liberty founder Arthur Lasenby himself - searching for treasures and trinkets to bring home to our Tudor flagship. In the case of jewellery, their discoveries can be found on the Ground Floor, where you’ll find everything from engagement rings to charms, and even a piercing bar. If you’re looking for a little guidance on what to wear this season, here’s a peek into four trends we spotted this summer. From heavenly creations to beachy charms, these pieces combine the playful elegance of holiday dressing with the craftsmanship that makes Liberty’s jewellery edit so unique.
Spirituality and the Skies
Magic is in the air this season. Many of our favourite jewellery designers seem to be looking upwards and inwards for their inspiration, creating pieces that feature intricate, dream-like details. Constellations of stars are sprinkled across pendants and signet rings from Cece Jewellery and our very own Liberty collection. Rachel Quinn’s weather-inspired designs are literally heavenly - featuring clouds made of pearls, zig zagging thunderbolts and tiny raindrop gems. Elsewhere, pieces are embellished with talismanic eyes to keep evil spirits at bay. We particularly love Marie Lichtenberg’s lockets, precious casings decorated with jewels and patterns, like tiny fantasy objects in which wishes and ideas are stored.

Embrace Your Inner Child
If winter is a season of understated elegance, then summer is all about the opposite. Embrace a season of fun with playful jewellery pieces that speak to your inner child. Remember those friendship bracelets you used to make for your friends? Bring back the tradition with a grown up version from Monica Vinader or Atelier VM. Speaking of friendship, Pura Utz’s beaded pieces also represent sisterhood - the brand was founded by two friends who made it their mission to create a socially sustainable brand supporting women in Guatemala. For a tongue-in-chic take on the trend, try Seb Brown’s happy face signet rings, which are engraved in a charmingly childlike way. Lastly, take a trip to the sweet shop with candied designs from Rachel Jackson and Anni Lu - and look out for new brand Bon Bon Jewellery Club, arriving at Liberty soon.

True Romance
Looking for summer love? You’ll find it in our Jewellery Hall, which is brimming with heart-shaped pieces. LA-based designer Rachel Quinn describes herself as a ‘shameless lover of hearts’ - her handmade red coral earrings could also be mistaken for two juicy red apples, complete with pink sapphire stalks. On the more spiritual side of things (see above), Brooke Gregson takes a bohemian approach with her delicate, talismanic designs. Another way to wear hearts is to stack them along your ears - try layering cupid’s arrow studs from Maria Nilsdotter alongside Kirstie La Marque’s diamond hoop earrings. For something completely unique, Loquet London’s innovative jewellery concept invites you to fill a personalised glass pendant with a selection of precious charms - wearing your heart around your neck, instead of on your sleeve.

Life's a Beach
Embrace the island life in a literal sense with whimsical, beach-themed charms and jewels. Adorn your ears with shells from Mateo and V by Laura Vann, and add a palm tree stud from Roxanne First to complete the scene. You’ll also find an intricately carved palm on one of Cece Jewellery’s signet rings - giving the summer trend her literal stamp of approval. As for designer Dinny Hall, she’s seen 40 years of summers at Liberty (that’s how long we’ve stocked her label) - her sunshine earrings feel just as fresh as ever.
