Elegant jewels are, perhaps, the finest gift possible. But, selecting the perfect jewellery gift – something they’ll treasure for years to come – is not always a simple task.
To give would-be jewellery gifters a helping hand, we spoke to a selection of jewellery experts from Liberty and beyond, for their advice when it comes to choosing the perfect showstopper gift for a loved one. Whether you're hunting for a necklace, bracelet or stand out ring: pens and papers at the ready, this gift advice is gold-dust…
How to Choose the Perfect Jewellery Gift
"The More Personal the Better"
Cece Fein-Hughes, founder, Cece Jewellery
"We always say, the more personal, the better. Look for a piece that tells a story—whether it’s through a meaningful design, a special motif, or something unique to your loved one. A thoughtful touch makes all the difference.
This year, I’m making my brother one of our Lucky Star rings, but with a twist—white gold and black diamonds to match his more gothic style. It’s all about creating something completely unique to him & I can't wait to see him open it.
As for me, I’m finally treating myself to my very own pet bespoke piece (long overdue!). It’ll be a ring featuring my cat, Lucky—because the best gifts are always the ones you give yourself, right?"
"Think Timeless"
Kim Thulin, lead product copywriter at Liberty
"My tip to a fellow gift-giver this Christmas, who wishes to mark the occasion with jewellery, is to choose something timeless, a high-quality heirloom piece made from durable metals that speak to the wearer’s personal style and can travel through life with them (have snoop in their jewellery box for inspiration). The holidays foster so much nostalgia and magic, and so I would pick something that makes me think of them, or something they wouldn’t necessarily get for themselves to make the piece feel that little extra bit special every time they wear it.
I would love to be gifted the stacked Acacia Ring from Spinelli Kilcollin as it demonstrates an incredibly intriguing mix of metals and texture to refine your look. A piece I’d wish to give this Christmas is the Sunbeam Point Hoop Earrings from British jewellery-legend Dinny Hall – they are wonderfully versatile, featuring a minimal, yet elevated design that would look gorgeous in a curated ear stack."

"Look for the story"
Nada Ghazal, founder, Nada Ghazal
"My pieces of jewellery have stories and feelings behind them, so whenever someone is coming to purchase a gift, I usually ask them a little bit about the person that they're that they would like to gift. Our pieces do have feelings and emotions and stories behind them, and I try to connect those the person that they're gifting.
Sometimes it's not about the aesthetic, it's also about the story behind the piece. I mix that with whether they would like to have an earring or a ring or a necklace. And according to the full story, I try to help the person choose the right gift."
"Keep it Personal"
Nombulelo Makombe, junior buyer for jewellery and sunglasses at Liberty
"I'd say to pick a piece of jewellery that reflects someone’s personality or holds sentimental value. Consider their favourite styles, metals, or gemstones, or look to something symbolic, like a birthstone.
As for me, I'd love to receive the Roxanne First 14ct Gold Baby Potato Pearl and Pink Sapphire Heart Beaded necklace, but the 12 Days of Jewellery Advent Calendarwould be the perfect jewellery gift for a loved one."
