If you want to know how to stop shiny skin, it's important to note that the difference between oily and radiant is big. I like radiance, but not when there is excess shine around the nose and forehead area. It must be the right amount, depending on the area of the face. The first step is figuring out those areas. Think about where the light naturally hits around midday, i.e. the tops of cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, the Cupid’s bow: those are your radiant areas. The rest of the face? That’s where you want to mattify.
And doing so is, thankfully, fairly easy. Incorporate a powder such as Westman Atelier’s Vital Pressed Skincare Powder, $88 into your routine. When you sweep the powder over your skin, it extends the wear of your makeup, evens out the tone and keeps the skin more uniform.

If cakiness or chalkiness is your concern, don’t stress. Modern day powder formulations are far more refined than the ones you might have relied on in your teens, lacing the skin in little more than a veil of softly diffused mattification. The way in which you apply it makes a marked difference, too. The key is to use a feather light touch with powder. If your skin is extremely oily or has some perspiration, blot with a tissue before applying.
Also, select the right tool for the job. A fluffy brush will administer a much lighter layer than patting on with a sponge. It was for this very job that we designed our Blender Blush, $150. It is excellent, fluffy, and easy to pop in your bag. You just sweep over areas where oiliness is unwanted, as well as the rest of your face, and you’re still able to maintain the integrity of the skin's natural radiance without looking too oily. As for the rest of your routine, forgo the highlighter and let your skin do that job for you.
