In Appreciation of: The Haider Ackermann - Augustinus Bader Limited Editions
The cult creams adored by complexions all over the globe have had something of a makeover – and it’s by one of the most prominent designers around
By: Shannon PeterThe Synopsis
They may already be a long-term member of the Liberty Beauty Hall of Fame, but there’s a new take on Augustinus Bader’s world-famous creams that makes their appearance worthy of a reprise. Enter The Haider Ackermann - Augustinus Bader Limited Editions, a new collection of Bader’s two most cult products housed in collectable chrome vessels, designed by Ackermann himself and available exclusively at Liberty. Where refined aesthetic meets functionality, the cream inside may be the same formula you know (and adore) but what appears on the outside is all the more extraordinary.
The Rise to Fame
You might be wondering how such an iconic collaboration came about. “Our paths first crossed at a private cocktail party honouring Azzedine Alaia,” explains Charles Rosier, CEO and co-founder of Augustinus Bader. “But it wasn’t until we met again at the Marrakech Film Festival that we actually discussed collaborating. Fast forward to multiple meetings in Paris, moodboards backwards and forwards, many zooms later and it resulted in the partnership you see today.”
While the Augustinus Bader brand may be one synonymous with state-of-the-art science and Haider Ackermann a label known for its refined aesthetic and fashion craftsmanship, there is, in fact, plenty of crossover between the two. “We are both dedicated to innovation,” Rosier continues. “Haider is an extremely talented designer: from his pieces, to his community, to the iconic people he dresses – we have a similar world and way of thinking, so collaborating with him to bring something new and exciting to our consumer was immediately appealing.”
The Credentials
Designing for the body has its own set of complexities, from the fluidity of the fabric to the way it contours a silhouette. So how did Ackermann approach a rather different design challenge: skincare packaging? “When we first spoke about this project, immediately I knew it had to be a mirror. The packaging needed to reflect its owner,” he enthuses. “To have a mirror where you could look at yourself, and apply your cream wherever you are and have it be a reflection of yourself. I also wanted to have something very pure to mirror the purity of skin, as well as the intimate moment when you are applying your daily ritual. It’s also very calming to touch and to look at, which is also vital, because it's about trying to find peace with yourself in that moment of application.”
The Star Quality
The idea here isn’t to offer a flash in the pan moment of magic, only to be forgotten. For both brands, the collaboration was about creating a refillable vessel – something of an object d’art, if you will – to keep and reuse everytime you restock your supply of Augustinus Bader’s beloved moisturiser. Because if one thing’s for sure about AB’s formulas, they certainly keep you coming back for more.
This limited edition collaboration is available as two sets: The Limited Edition Rich Cream 50ml Nomad with The Rich Cream 50ml Nomad Refill, £435 as well as The Limited Edition Cream 50ml Nomad with The Cream 50ml Nomad Refill, £435.
