The Dream Date Night Makeup Look
Revel in the hazy thrill of the pre-date lead-up with this simple yet special beauty look
By: Shannon PeterIf the company is right, it doesn’t really matter what you wear on a date. But that’s not to say it doesn’t pay to feel confident in how you present yourself. And a big part of that is deciding on a date night makeup look. Where better to start than a collection inspired by the many stages of falling in love? Enter First Emotions, makeup artist icon Lucia Pica’s first full collection for Byredo. A celebration of the colour red, it’s a love letter to warm, flattering tones and multi-use formulas. Here, Byredo makeup artists Jun Sato and Elliot Banks show us the ropes.

Byredo Kajal in Ambivalent, £26
You can easily use this soft kajal liner as a cream eyeshadow. “Scribble a patch of eyeliner onto the back of your hand and then use a brush to transfer onto the eyelid,” recommends Jun. “If you apply a cream product as the base, it’ll cling to the powder eyeshadow you apply on top, and improve the pigment payoff.” Buff a soft halo of colour over the entire eyelid.

Byredo Eyeshadow 5 Colours in State of Emotions, £58
On top of your base, next layer up the intensity using the shade Void from the State of Emotions palette. “Pat on top of the base to build up the colour, then take a clean brush and buff it in circular motions to blend and soften the edges,” Joon continues. Note that a clean brush makes all the difference. “Apply too much product and you won’t get the gradient effect you’re after,” Jun adds. Finish with a lighter shade to highlight the centre of the lid, up and over the crease.

Seeing Red
Byredo Mascara in Mixed Emotion, £37
Swap your traditional black mascara for a burgundy one. “The shade catches the light really well, and it’s not as intimidating as you might think,” Elliot says. “Plus, the warm tones can help make eyes look whiter and icier.”

Byredo Lipstick in On the Fence, £40
For the lips, try out On the Fence, a new shade for Byredo. “It’s a really nice pinky nude with a creamy matte texture,” explains Jun. “To apply, start from the centre and work outwards. This will mean you’ll accentuate rather than flatten the lip shape. Then, use a brush to blend it out to the rest of the lips.” Make your lipstick work double duty by using any excess as a blush. “Tap your fingertips on your lips, then pat gently across the contour of the cheek,” Elliot advises.
