The cult classic moisturiser loved the world over finally makes it debut in our coveted Beauty Hall of Fame
By: Shannon PeterThe Synopsis
It’s 2023, and skincare has never been so advanced. So much so, there’s a constant steady stream of new and exciting innovations, each one utilising newfound ingredients and forward-thinking technologies, revolutionising our skincare routines as they go. It’s safe to say then, that if a product is able to remain as relevant today as it was back at its conception over 50 years ago, then it must be pretty special – and more than that, it must work. So, if you’re yet to get acquainted, may we introduce you to Créme de la Mer, £155?
The Rise to Fame
Legend has it that Créme de la Mer was first created out of pure necessity, when physicist Max Huber suffered scalded skin thanks to an experiment that went wrong. Living on San Diego’s coast, the sea was his inspiration, and where he found the kelp that would form the basis of his iconic restorative, reparative Miracle Broth.
The Credentials
The product that started it all, just like the rest of the brand’s line-up, Créme de la Mer contains that very Miracle Broth, a blend of giant sea kelp, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, all left to ferment for up to four months. It’s believed to curb the negative effects of skin irritation, helping to fade the visual manifestations of sensitive skin. In other words, you can expect calmer, moisturised skin with ample glow.
The Star Quality
Much thicker than your standard-issue moisturiser, there’s something so very satisfying about the texture of Créme de la Mer. It’s dense, so really does require the warmth of the hands to help it glide over the skin but once on and blended, it’s incredibly comforting and cosseting. Trust us, your skin’s going to love it.
