Celebrate London Design Festival at Liberty
In the spirit of London Design Festival, we’ve highlighted some of the best things to see at Liberty
Living up to its reputation for creativity and innovation, this week sees London celebrating one of its most important cultural events - the annual London Design Festival. Taking place from the 14th-22nd September, the city will be buzzing with talks, exhibitions and workshops, exploring new ideas and celebrating this year’s themes of diversity, sustainability and play.
As a London icon of design and creativity, there’s always plenty to discover at Liberty. In the spirit of the festival, we’ve highlighted some of the best design-led things to see and do at Liberty during LDF. Whether you’re making a pit stop between events, or enjoying a relaxed shopping weekend, here are a few unique experiences guaranteed to leave you feeling inspired.
1. Liberty x Kartell
Originally launched in April at Milan’s Salone del Mobile, our collaboration with Italian furniture icon Kartell returns to our Tudor flagship for London Design Festival. Featuring chairs, outdoor furniture and homeware pieces in distinctive Liberty prints, the collection will be available to shop in a dedicated pop-up space on the Fourth Floor. Once you’ve explored the space, you can also continue your tour at the Kartell flagship on Brompton Road, where you’ll find ‘The Garden of Endless Design’ – an installation that sees the store transformed into a blooming garden of Liberty florals.
2. The Curated Home
This season, we’re celebrating the joy of art and craft: filling our homes with objects that uplift and delight. Nearby the Kartell installation on the Fourth Floor, you’ll also discover an array of new arrivals like Anya Hindmarch’s whimsical ‘Life’ collection, Marin Montagut’s charming Parisian illustrations and pieces from New York decoupage artist John Derian.
3. Sézane in The Atrium
London Design Festival is also a celebration of international design excellence. Joining us in Liberty this year is the quintessentially Parisian brand Sézane, who have taken over the store with a breathtaking display of craft and creativity. In The Atrium as you enter, you’ll encounter a giant dressmaker’s doll hanging from the ceiling, surrounded by atelier accoutrements - spools of thread, a pincushion and a giant pair of scissors. In the windows, you’ll see supersized versions of the brand’s beloved knitwear and handbag, which you can shop in store, alongside the brand’s menswear label, Octobre Editions.
4. The Fragrance Lounge
The spirit of design excellence runs through every corner of Liberty. One place it's most evident is downstairs in The Fragrance Lounge, a space dedicated to showcasing the world’s finest olfactory creations from labels like Matiere Premiere, Creed, Bibbi Parfums, and our own Liberty LBTY. You can also visit our infamous Noseum, an interactive wall of noses created by artist Tasha Marks. The artwork displays 360, 3D-scanned noses of customers, perfumers, and those behind the brand, which emit molecules from a rotation of world-renowned perfumers.
5. Liberty at Pentagram
Once you’ve taken a tour of Liberty’s Tudor, head to Pentagram’s Notting Hill studio, where on 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd September you can learn more about the design process behind the recent Liberty fabric collections designed by Dutch graphic designer Karel Martens and Pentagram’s Harry Pearce, alongside the Liberty team. In the studio, you’ll also find an installation dedicated to a previous collaboration, Liberty Letters, featuring graphic walls, fabrics, accessories and videos about the collection.
