Still produced in the same factory in Caldas da Rainha in Portugal where he first designed back in the 1800s, artist Rafeal Bordallo Pinheiro’s timeless yet wonderfully playful designs have traversed centuries to still be instantly recognisable wares to date. Best known for iconic cabbage leaf pottery, the brand uses traditional techniques to make its inimitable ceramics, drawing inspiration from organic forms to create plates and platters, red pepper tableware, leaf-shaped dishes, citrus dinnerware and more.

Astier de Villatte

After inheriting a kiln from his father, Benoît Astier de Villatte joined forces with Ivan Pericoli to found the brand in 1996. A flagship store and artisan workshop followed suit and has persevered over two decades. Each piece starts as a single sheet of black terracotta clay extracted from quarries in the Paris Basin. It is then hand shaped by Tibetan artisans to leave deliberate imperfections and is inscribed with each potter’s initials. Surprisingly light to hold, every piece speaks to a Parisian luxury that has defined the cult world of Astier de Villatte.
