There’s a new frontier in skin health: neuroscience backed skincare. That’s the concept behind NEUR|AÉ, the latest, ground-breaking new name in the Liberty Beauty Hall.
It may sound dizzyingly futuristic, but at its core, NEUR|AÉ brings science-backed skincare to something we’ve all known for years: how you feel has a big impact on your skin. Stress-related breakouts, fatigue-induced dullness or the dreaded frown lines have been anecdotally demeaned for time immemorial – but what’s the science behind that? And how can we deal with it?
Developed by Sisley Paris, the team behind NEUR|AÉ spent almost a decade honing an approach that answers this exact question: tapping into the connection between the mind and the skin to deliver impactful, rigorously tested formulations elevated by neuroscientific principles. Each product features powerful, intensely researched ingredients, with everything from fragrance to texture selected based on their proven impacts to mind and skin.
Who better to explain more than Christine D’Ornano, Global Vice President of Sisley? As the brand launches exclusively with Liberty, she shared her insight, and personal NEUR|AÉ must-haves from the revolutionary new name in skin health.
The Story Behind NEUR|AÉ
What was the inspiration behind the launch – where did the idea for this come from?
Over a decade ago our scientists drew our attention to a new field of research focused on neuroscience and more precisely the impact our emotions have on our skin.
Advances in neuroscience and imaging techniques enabled us to better understand how the brain works, and in particular how it interacts with our skin.
We became aware that our skin and our brain were intrinsically linked by a constant two-way communication and we researched whether by acting on our emotions we could improve the overall quality of the skin.
NEUR|AÉ is a skincare brand elevated by neuroscience, that cares as much for your skin as it does for your emotional wellbeing.
Can you tell us a little about the process of research and development behind NEUR|AÉ?
The research took over ten years. The trigger was neuroscience. Indeed, skin and brain are intrinsically connected, communicating through messengers named neuromediators. We targeted four key messengers which impact our skin and our emotions, either in a positive way, (B- endorphins and GABA) or in a negative way (cortisol and CGRP).
Our scientists were able to select neuro-active ingredients which directly act on minimizing the negative messengers while enhancing positive ones.
Our teams then launched extensive tests to validate the impact of our formulas.
We were so impressed by the results and the newness of this field of research that we decided to launch a new brand based on this pioneering concept.
How would you summarise the concept?
NEUR|AÉ is a skincare brand elevated by neuroscience, that cares as much for your skin as it does for your emotional wellbeing. At the heart of its formulas resides the NA3 TM Technology, an innovative combination of neuro-ingredients, neuro-fragrances and neuro-textures, offering pioneering solutions to help dull, tired or stressed skin regain optimum condition.
Why is this concept so groundbreaking?
It is the first time we have looked at our skin quality through the prism of neuroscience.
For that purpose, our Sisley Laboratories worked with expert partners to establish an innovative testing programme to validate our product efficacy at three levels : at cellular level, at a skin level and lastly at an emotional level which is a completely new approach.
The test results proved that we could act on loss of firmness, radiance, the formation of lines and on the overall quality of the skin! We were also very impressed with the results on skin redness which after one month of use was greatly minimised.
What are some of the products you’re most excited about, and why?
There are three NEUR|AÉ routines: Joy, Energy and Serenity: depending on the emotional and skin benefits you want to tackle. All three, begin with the application of the Harmony Serum, with its unique patent pending neuro-ingredients complex, which helps reset the skin and well-being. Instantly on applying the Harmony Serum, I feel calmer and, personally, I then use the Joy Cream and the Serenity Booster during the day. I feel my skin is glowing and the redness has subdued. During the day, the Serenity roll on gives me a feeling of calm which helps me navigate my day. All in all, I feel better and have seen a real difference on my skin.
