This Just In: Byredo Makeup Has Landed
From the mascara that builds brow-skimming lashes to the lip gloss that lends a futuristic sheen, we’ve tried it all – and we think you should too…
By: Shannon PeterNeedless to say, you already love Byredo, the sophisticated Scandinavian purveyor of some of the most delicious scents to ever grace your collarbones. But as these Byredo makeup reviews attest, it’s about time you extended that brand devotion to your face, too. And good news: the collection has just landed in our iconic Beauty Hall. So if you’re wondering which products should be the first to make their way into your makeup bag, our thoughts on some of the brand’s product highlights might prove helpful.
The Versatile Palette
Byredo Eyeshadow 5 Colours in Sciomancer, £58
“As an eyeshadow devotee, I’ve got to say, the pigment payoff of Byredo’s palettes is up there with some of the best, making them effective on all skin tones. This colourway, called Sciomancer, might scare beauty novices, but the bold shades are actually rather wearable. Either apply to the entirety of the lid for a strong block of colour, or use in lieu of eyeliner. They’re easy to build up or sheer out for a smokey effect. I’m already conjuring up a list of Christmas party looks I could create with it.” —Shannon Peter, Beauty and Editorial Lead
Shop NowThe Futuristic Mascara
Byredo Mascara Astronomical, £37
“I jumped on this mascara as soon as it landed on my desk. The attention grabbing packaging is other-worldly, but aside from that, I am a mascara fanatic. But I have a lot of requirements, and ideally I’d find them all in one place. Drama is key – no daytime natural look thank you. But with separation so it’s not chunky. And curling, fanning and lengthening a bonus. The smart silicone brush has short bristles that do manage to achieve all of the above, and the formula is blackest black and so far, pretty much un-smudgeable. It’s not the easiest to remove, but you can take that as a good thing!”—Sophie Beresiner, Global Head of Content
Shop NowThe Modernist’s Lip Gloss
Byredo Liquid Lipstick Vinyl, £40
“These liquid lipsticks are Byredo’s first drop with renowned makeup artist Lucia Pica at the helm. They’re as understated as lip gloss can be, offering more of a stain than full colour but with a lovely sheen, and they’re brimming with lots of hydrating ingredients like shea butter. Usually I reserve lip gloss for nighttime but these are pared-back enough to wear during the day too, and they do not budge – my usual liquid lip bugbear. My favourite, Auburn, is a warm terracotta, perfect for Autumn.” —Verity Clark, Freelance Beauty Editor
Shop NowThe Everywhere Stick
Byredo Colour Stick in Flower Play, £28
“If a barely-there, but buildable sheen is the makeup route you wish to go (and I am 100% with you on this one) then this Colour Stick might be your bare-sheen holy grail. Why is this one so good? It’s versatile for one, the colour is hint-of-pink, rather than just plain neutral, which means you’re adding just the right amount of depth and warmth to your cheeks, or lips, or eyes. Or orbital socket, or just under brows et cetera. Flower bomb is my favourite shade of colour stick for this reason, but the stronger and more unusual shades are equally great, just in increasing levels of experimental excitement.”—SB
Shop NowThe Problem-Solving Pencil
Byredo Kajal Pencil, £26
“If you hate how certain eyeliners scratch on application and smudge in all the wrong directions come 3pm, may I avert your attention to this pencil? It’s incredibly creamy, meaning it slides onto eyes like a dream. You can either leave it as sharp as you first applied it (and it looks just like liquid eyeliner that way, too) or you have a couple of minutes of playtime to smoke it out before it sets in place until you’re ready to take it off again.” –SP
