Floranation: Discover National Flowers from Around the World

Paying home to landscapes, architecture and style that all bring a sense of place, for Liberty Fabrics’ latest collection we’re taking a journey through national flowers

By: Charlotte Olby

Liberty’s love affair with flowers is deeply rooted in our history. Opening our doors in 1875, Arthur Lasenby Liberty spent many years travelling the world, searching for inspiration for his wares until the 1920s when he first started to produce the floral and paisley prints that are known fondly today as the recognisable ‘Liberty Print’. So, naturally, when you think of Liberty fabrics it is, of course, an array of florals that come to mind. While we’ve been known to celebrate florals in all their guises (and their secret, symbolic meanings) in our new Floranation collection we’re taking a new, national approach to our blooms…

In this curated capsule of 16 unique designs, our Floranation fabrics explore National Flowers from around the world. Each country has its own set of flora and fauna that are endemic to their motherland and are chosen to represent their native country as a symbol of heritage and celebration (there’s even a National Flower Day on 21st March).

From flowers found in stories from German children’s books to Bulgarian style roses, French Irises and scenes of alpine flowers inspired by traditional painted Swiss chalets; each of the Floranation designs take a journey through a wealth of artistically diverse countries, erupting in a technicolour expression of botany. Jump on board and let Liberty take you on a whistle stop tour of the natural world.
